VBike’s Taupo Challenge training programme will get you fit, focused and on-track for NZ’s largest cycle event.
Take a proven approach to your training
Auckland-based VBike is New Zealand’s only indoor studio for cyclists. Instead of spin bikes, we've got specialized indoor cycling software and computerised indoor trainers that deliver tailored workouts, fine-tuned to maximise individual fitness gains.
Riding your own bike, you’ll be able to train effectively and consistently for the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge regardless of the weather or traffic. With every session designed to deliver the perfect amount of intensity and recovery, you'll avoid over or under training. One hour of a power-based indoor workout at VBike is worth 1.5 hours on the road.
Have fun and stay motivated
Ride alongside other cyclists in our dedicated Taupo Cycle Challenge indoor training group. You’ll get maximum benefit and enjoyment out of every session with big screen entertainment, live performance dashboards and post-workout summaries.
Complete a virtual ride before the event
Prepare yourself for race day with a virtual ride of key elements of the course. Our round Taupo simulation means you’ll do a precise replica of parts of the ride. You’ll know how to handle toughest hills and other course challenges before the big day.
Follow a professionally developed program
Designed by VBike's Head Coach Jianni Koutsos, your 12-week Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge training programme will be uniquely tailored to you. It includes:
- 3x fitness assessments to ensure your training load provides sufficient challenge for fitness gains (worth $180)
- 32x 60-90 minutes (3x per week) structured indoor training sessions designed to provide the optimum balance of intensity and recovery (worth $640)
- 1x virtual ride of the most challenging elements of the Taupo course (worth $40)
- On-hand coaching support (worth $180)
- Cost: $780 (actual value $1,040)
Runs from Tuesday 29 August to Sunday 19 November (Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6pm and Sunday at 10am). We recommend you do at least one long road ride each Saturday.
